Immigration law can be both complex and time consuming.

There are many different visas, work permits and conditions that apply to each individual case and we work closely with the public authorities to ensure an efficient application process.

EU applicants

EU citizens as well as citizens of Switzerland may freely enter Denmark and for a period of up to 3 months without an EU residence permit and job-seekers may reside in Denmark for up to 6 months without a registration certificate.

If you expect that your stay in Denmark will last more than 3 months, you must apply for an EU residence permit and this document serves as your proof of residency. The permit is not issued for a specific duration and will remain valid for as long as the conditions on which it was issued apply.

Nordic applicant

Citizens of Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden are free to reside, study and work in Denmark and do not need to apply for a visa, residence or work permit.

Non EU applicants

For Non EU citizens, there are a number of different schemes that can be used to apply for a work and residence permit.

Settwell will advise you and your employer in which scheme is suitable for you.

The most commonly used schemes are:

  • Positive List A governed list of the professions and fields currently experiencing a labor shortage.
  • Pay Limit scheme Requires annual gross salary of min. DKK 436,000. Read more about the Pay Limit scheme.
  • Corporate scheme For Employers located outside of Denmark to station employees in a Danish subsidiary, parent or sister company  for a period of time. Read more about the Corporate scheme.
  • Greencard scheme For highly qualified professionals seeking employment in Denmark and thereby gaining a work permit. Read more about the Greencard scheme.
  • Trainee For educational and training purposes for a limited period of time. Read more about trainees.
